SANDWICH
AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION Town
Meeting 2010 brought the approval to create the town’s first
Agricultural Commission. The
first regular meeting of the commission was held on May 20, 2010 with all
members in attendance. We quickly got
to business on deciding how this group would meet the agricultural needs of
the town and how to best promote our mission: “To
protect and sustain the rural, agricultural character and history of the town
as outlined in the current master plan. Be a public voice for the town of
Sandwich agricultural community. To encourage and advocate for educational
programs, initiatives, policies, and practices that are related to the
enhancement of the rural, agricultural, historical, and future impact of such
within the town of Sandwich. To advise
individuals, town boards and commissions on issues related to agriculture and
land use policy. To facilitate, where possible, clarification and unification
of conflicting policies and practices that effect the rural and agricultural
character within the Town of Sandwich. “ A
couple of items we have been actively working on are plans to establish a town
wide composting site, an idea that came to us through various members of our
community. We are also working to
establish a town resource guide for agricultural folks seeking contacts or
information related to their field of expertise, a kind of “who, what
and where” guide. We are also
seeking to partner with, and support the Sandwich Fair Association in its
endeavors to maintain and enhance the agricultural aspects of the fair. There
are many ideas that the commission seeks to explore. We welcome public input. Meetings
are held monthly on the 3rd Thursday at 7:00PM in Town Hall. We encourage the members of our community
to attend and share thoughts and suggestions on how the Agricultural
Commission can best serve your needs. **During
the summer and early fall months, the Agricultural Commission meetings will
take place at the newly renovated Grange Hall on Maple Street. Click
